After Assisting the other members of the crew in dismounting from the burning tank Petrin discovered two German soldiers were trying to grenade his buddies. When the shooting ceased the two Germans lay dead, thanks to Pete’s forty-five.
He received the Silver Star for this engagement plus the Purple Heart.
In addition to these awards Pete wears the Presidential Unit Citation, awarded for the breakthrough of the Siegfried line. He drove one of the first tanks to cross the dragon-teeth.
He has his eye on the supply sergeant’s job. He says three tanks to lose are enough for him. He has 69 points so he expects to be with the Third Armored Division for quite a while.
On February 6, 1946 T5 Petrin was honorably discharged.
Once home from the war his first job was delivering Western Union Telegrams on his bicycle. He started working at the Joy Foundry in Claremont, retiring after 46 ½ years.

In April, 2016 he was honored with France’s Highest Legion of Honor Medal

Note from the webmaster:
Sometimes it takes longer then you expect to create an digital tribute page.
I know this one took some time, but we want to find always more information about these men.
At one day I bumped into this tribute video and I had a long thought if I would publish it.
But to be honest I think this is the best way to honor mr. Petrin.
